Welcome to the Smith College JobX web site.

Summer Wage Rates and instructions are now set by the Controller. Summer employment begins on May 13 and runs through September 6. There is a new FSA requirement by the IRS of all students working in the summer. Please urge your employees to complete the form for Human Resources when you hire them. Please refer to Information for Employers.

All student positions for the academic can be advertised on JobX at this time for eligible students on Work-Study but cannot be officially hired on JobX until July 1. Please note that non-Work-Study students are not eligible to keep positions they held this summer or last year, the jobs must be advertised again. Please give priority to Work-Study applicants. Jobs will not open to non-Work-Study applications until October 1. Please make sure to hire students on JobX *before* scheduling them for work.

INFORMATION FOR EMPLOYERS on the left is required reading for any college employer and will answer many questions and provide links to more detail.

By law, students must complete their mandatory payroll paperwork and be hired officially in JobX before beginning work. Do not employ anyone until they've completed their forms.

Non-Work-Study and Spot Job Hires Click HERE to complete the non-work-study hire request form, to hire for a Spot Job, OR to hire for J-term when student may be hired for jobs in excess of 12 hours a week.

On-Campus or Off-Campus Work-Study employers new to the site should visit Information for Employers at left to apply for a user account, visit the Employers section of the Student Employment web page and read the JobX User Guide for Employers.

Visit the Student Payroll for all information pertaining to BannerWeb, time sheet approvals, payment, payrates and the payroll schedule.

Find A Job Quick Tips

Before proceeding, students must familiarize themselves with the college's policies, procedures, expectations, etc. available on Student Employment at Smith.
Any student working at all during the summer must complete Retirement Plan Election form (SRA) with Human Resources due to a new IRS requirement. Read more on the Summer Employment page.

First year students, on Work-Study or not, are limited to Dining Services and Facilities Management positions during their entire first year at Smith. At this time, first year students can apply for summer jobs.

IMPORTANT: Any student wishing to work must first complete mandatory paperwork with the Payroll Office. Visit the Student Payroll for all information pertaining to BannerWeb, time sheet approvals, payment, pay rates and the payroll schedule.

The minimum wage will rise to $11 an hour as of January 1, 2017. Work on-campus during J-term is excluded from Work-Study earnings limits while off-campus earnings continue to be counted. Refer to Student Employment at Smith for policies, procedures, information and answers to any questions.
